The following Code of Conduct was adopted at the AGM on January 15th 2016:
All members must show respect for the rights, dignity and worth of all other members regardless of age, gender, ability, race, cultural background or religious beliefs, sexual identity or social/economic status. We also hope that you will be supportive and encouraging towards fellow members as they strive to meet their goals at whatever standard.
Your own safety and that of fellow club members is of paramount importance. You run at your own risk and are expected to take responsibility for your own safety and act accordingly, whilst also concerning yourself with the safety of others and take immediate action if you believe a fellow member to be at risk.
Make sure you know the running routes and listen carefully to instructions given at the beginning of each session. Do not simply rely on others to lead you as it is easy to lose sight of them when running through the streets at night. Inform the group leader or tail runner if you are finding it difficult to keep up.
Always run in a group with at least one other person. Be aware of any other members in your group who might be falling behind and either wait for them or loop back.
When running along the streets, respect the rights of other people who use the pavements. When meeting in public places, such as the leisure centre or in car parks, do not huddle in groups at the doorways or on the paths as it can be intimidating for others to pass through. Be polite and do not inconvenience the public – the good name of the club is at stake.
Wear something white, bright or fluorescent during the darker evenings.
Use pavements or footpaths wherever possible, and when running along country lanes keep to the right hand side of the road facing oncoming traffic, except on blind right hand bends when it is better to cross to the left.
When running across fields be aware of livestock; always shut gates and don’t run between mothers and their offspring.
As a general rule, always follow the Highway and Country Codes.
All members are encouraged to be open at all times and share any concerns or complaints they may have with the Club Chairperson, a Committee Member, or Run Leader. We willingly accept constructive comments and positively welcome any contributions members wish to make in the organisation/administration of the club.
