Championship Races 2026
Objectives
The objectives of the Club Championship are to:
- encourage friendly competition among members
- raise the club’s profile by motivating members to take part in local events
1. Qualifying races are chosen by members at the AGM, with the committee making amendments or additions as needed to ensure a good spread of events throughout the year and a suitable mix of distances. The committee’s decision on the final list of races is definitive.
2. Club members may take part in as many championship races as they wish. To qualify for the final championship standings, however, they must complete at least six events. Only a member’s best six results will count towards their final score.
Points will still be awarded in every race, to every club entrant, as outlined in Section 4. This means that even if you are unlikely to complete six events, you will still be competing for points throughout the season.
3. There are separate competitions for men and women.
4. Points are awarded based on the finishing positions of club members:
- 55 points for the first male and first female club runner
- 52 points for second place
- 50 points for third
- 48 for fourth
- 46 for fifth, decreasing by one point per position down to 2 points for forty‑ninth
- All remaining finishers receive 1 point
If two runners record identical chip times, they will be awarded the same number of points, and the next position will be skipped accordingly.
5. Participants must be entered under the club name (Buckingham & Stowe RC) to earn championship points. If this isn’t possible – for example, if you’re not affiliated with England Athletics or the race website doesn’t allow you to list the club—you are responsible for informing the committee member who manages the championship tables and providing your result.
6. Results will be taken from the official race results, with chip times used wherever they are available.
7. If there is a tie for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place in the final tables, the member who has completed the most races will take precedence.
If a tie still remains, the athlete with the most 1st‑place finishes will take precedence.
If the standings are still tied after applying these criteria, the positions will be awarded jointly as appropriate. As is standard practice, joint winners mean no second place is awarded, and joint second place means no third place is awarded.
8. There will be additional tables based on age‑graded performance (WAVA scores). The top three athletes in the main championship standings will be excluded from this competition. A separate WAVA‑based championship table will be published, and winners will be recognised in the same way as the standard championship – so it’s always worth giving it your best effort.
